Former She's So Fly header appology

(former header of She's So Fly blog)

By Sherri Russell - editor of She's So Fly

I would like to apologize to everyone who was offended by my previous heading graphics (pictured above).  The original intent of this heading was to promote a charity calendar that the Business Women of Newaygo Group and I created and are currently selling to help raise $15,000.00 for a local girl’s camp in efforts to allow under privileged girls to attend.  We worked very hard on this calendar and are very proud of our efforts.  So far, we have raised $9,000.00 towards our goal…not bad for twelve women with an idea that originated over lunch one day.  Your support would be greatly appreciated.  For more information visit www.HessLakeRentals.com or read the article about it within this blog.

When I first started this blog, I had no idea how popular it would become, which I am extremely excited over.  I started this blog October 1, 2009 (only 13 days ago) and have had over 20,000 page views, now that is amazing to me!  We all have the power to make an impact in this world if we put our minds to it.

I am simple small town Michigan girly-girl with a passion for writing, fishing and helping others improve their quality of life.  If I can turn just one person’s life around as a result of this blog and/or increase awareness with respect to nature and preserving it for future generations, then my time was well spent.

I am not only a girly-girl and proud of my photo from that calendar, I am a driven person with a goal to make a positive impact in this world…just because someone may be pretty or strike a proactive pose, does not mean that they are not intelligent or just trying to make a buck as some comments I have read about me on other websites.  Let me tell you something…I will never stop wearing lipstick when I go out to fish, because that is just me!  I have earned much respect from the fishing guides that I have had the opportunity to fish with….they are impressed on my ability to pick up on all of the tips they have given me and my natural casting ability and my eagerness to listen and learn the correct way to fly fish.  I truly love the sport of fishing!

Let me tell you a little about myself:

I am a product design engineer for a major company in Michigan.  I have owned and operated a residential construction company.  I have flipped houses for the past seven years.  I co-own and operate a cottage rental business in Newaygo, Michigan.  I have built my own house with my own two hands which was 2700 sq/ft and it took me two years by myself to complete every night after work.  I have been writing articles and getting them published for the past seven years.  I have coached and mentored emotionally abused women for the past ten years.  I founded and head a "Getting back to Nature" contest for children, which consists of a weeks vacation for the child and their family that consists of fishing, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, boating and lodging.  I love to be outdoors and hike, snow ski, ice fish, fly fish, boat, and kayak.  I am a single mother of a fourteen year old son.  I create and sell art for charity.  I am involved in many groups locally to help increase tourism within Western Michigan and in turn help out many small local businesses and our local economy.  I am currently co-authoring a book on fly fishing that will be published next year.  I donate a lot of my time to help others and I am proud of it…if more people would do the same, the world might be a better place.

Your continued support and comments concerning this blog would be greatly appreciated towards my efforts mentioned earlier.  Who knows, you may be surprised to discover some great articles from a blonde girly-girl who wears lipstick when she goes fishing!

Although I don't believe an apology was in order for the photo you previously had on your blog, I do appreciate your sensitivity in issuing one. I know lots of girly-girls who also enjoy the outdoors and forgetting their lipstick is NOT an option. Thanks for taking the time to share what you learn about fly-fishing with other women out there who may or may not be girly-girls! I wish you the best with She's So Fly and will be a frequent visitor.

I work for a new fly shop on the Texas Gulf Coast and my boss and I recently came across your advertisement and article on Moldy Chum. We too are trying to get more women involved in the sport of fly fishing and love your blog and all that you are doing. On October 23rd we are hosting the Texas Women Fly Fishers mixer for their Saltwater Outing. The TWFF group is a women’s group, but they get the whole family involved by allowing spouses and whole families to join the group together. They host outings a couple of times a year and always raise a small donation to give back to the community in which they hold each event. We thought you might be interested in the group, the event we are hosting here at the shop, and what we are doing down here trying to get folks into saltwater fly fishing. Looking forward to hearing from you and congrats on your blogs success!
