Proud High School Football Mom Asks For Your Vote

By Sherri Russell (she's so fly)

There will be no fishing for me this weekend......

My son, Kyle, is a senior in Grant high school this year and on the football team that is scheduled for state playoffs this year!  Their 1st playoff game is against Newaygo this Friday, October 26th.

Kyle's school football team has not had this accomplishment in many many years and I am very proud of him and his team mates for their hard work and dedication towards obtaining their playoff goals!

They have now a shot at becoming the chosen STATEWIDE game of the week to be reported - with the help of your vote by selecting  "Grant vs. Newaygo" at:
http://highschoolsports.mlive.com/m/school/grant-grant/article/6258638/

Kyle also has plans to enroll in the United States Marines in efforts to earn money for college and defend his country - another goal in which I am extremely proud of my son!

Newaygo-Grant matchup the big winner in Muskegon Game of Week football poll

, October 23, 2012 5:07 p.m.

Newaygo and Grant battle in action from a meeting in 2010. The two rivals will square off again Friday in the MLive.com Game of the Week. - (MLive.com)
MUSKEGON – Game on between Grant and Newaygo.

The neighboring towns will battle it out Friday as the greater Muskegon area’s Game of the Week for the first round of the high school football playoffs.

The vote is in and the matchup is a landslide winner of the MLive.com fan poll.

It won with more than 75 percent, drawing 1,349 of the 1,776 votes cast in the weekly poll.

The game drew a big interest in Newaygo County as the two teams did not play during the regular season because of Newaygo’s move to a new conference. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday at Newaygo.

Following behind were Oakridge-Buchanan (169 votes), Fruitport-Grand Rapids Christian (94), Muskegon Catholic Central-Vestaburg (70), Muskegon-Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills (69) and Shelby-Kalkaska (25).

We'll write a preview about the Newaygo-Grant game and cover it with two reporters to provide a variety of stories, photos and stats. We'll also be conducting a live chat - which will provide not only up-to-the-minute reports, but information on other games in the area.

This Friday's playoff game "Newaygo Lions vs. Grant Tigers" tickets can now be purchased in advance (during school hours) at the Newaygo High School's Main Office or Athletic Office.

This playoff game will be at Newaygo High School, 200 East Street Newaygo, MI 49337. Phone (231) 652-1646.

You can share on-the-spot information from other games as well as your comments about the Game of the Week or any playoff game.
